Canadian Christmas Traditions -What Are Some Of Yours!?

Christmas is a special time of year for Canadians, and it is a time when families and friends come together to celebrate and create memories. In Canada, Christmas traditions are a blend of both European and American customs, with a touch of Canadian flair. Here are some of the most popular Canadian Christmas traditions that you should know about.

One of the most iconic Canadian Christmas traditions is the celebration of Christmas with a big feast. Many families gather together to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner, usually consisting of turkey or ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, and vegetables. Another popular dish is tourtière, a savory meat pie that is a staple in Quebec. Many families also enjoy a Christmas brunch, often featuring traditional dishes such as eggs benedict, smoked salmon and various kinds of pastries.

Another popular Canadian Christmas tradition is the celebration of Advent. Advent is the period of four weeks leading up to Christmas, and it is traditionally a time of preparation and anticipation for the birth of Jesus. Many Canadian families mark the start of Advent by lighting the first candle of an Advent wreath, which is a circular wreath made of evergreens with four candles. One candle is lit each Sunday leading up to Christmas.

Christmas caroling is another beloved tradition in Canada. Many communities organize caroling events, where people gather to sing traditional Christmas songs and carols. This is a great way to get into the Christmas spirit and to spread holiday cheer in your community.

Decorating the Christmas tree is also an important tradition in Canada. Many families gather together to decorate their tree with lights, ornaments, and tinsel. Some families even have a theme for their tree, like all homemade ornaments or all white ornaments.

Finally, Christmas gift-giving is an important tradition in Canada. Many families exchange gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas morning. It's a time when families come together to share presents and create lasting memories.

As you can see, Christmas is a special time of year for Canadians and is a time when families and friends come together to celebrate and create memories. The blend of European and American customs, with a touch of Canadian flair, make Canadian Christmas traditions unique and special. From big feasts, Advent celebrations, caroling, decorating the Christmas tree, and gift giving, there are many ways to enjoy the holidays in Canada.

Merry Christmas Everyone. & I hope you'll share with me some of your traditions.
